Walk and Talk Therapy

walk-the-walk3

Do you dread the thought of sitting in an office for an hour trying to talk about your feelings? After being in an office all the day long, is the last place you want to be another office? Maybe your teen refuses to go sit in a “shrinks” office.

Walk and Talk Therapy is a great way to reduce depression, anxiety and stress while discussing your issues and concerns in a beautiful, tranquil setting. Walk and Talk sessions provide a wonderful alternative to the traditional office setting. It has been found that rhythmic exercise, such as walking, can be conducive to the process of self-discovery. Movement propels people forward – literally and figuratively. Somehow the simple act of walking while talking out life’s issues creates change through forward movement. Through the rhythm of walking and talking there is a sync between the counselor and client. At a moderate pace, healing and breakthroughs occur!

Key reasons for combining exercise and therapy:

  • It encourages you to be more physically active for mental and physical reasons.
  • It helps you get “unstuck” when confronting difficult issues.
  • It spurs creative, deeper ways of thinking often released by mood-improving physical activity.
  • It helps if you have trouble sitting still and would rather be moving.

Who Is Walk & Talk Therapy For?

This method of therapy is suitable for both adolescents and adults.   It’s great for teenagers who don’t want to be cooped up in an office and helps them feel more at ease. New moms or Dads especially love the convenience and practicality of walk and talk sessions. Bring your baby in the stroller as we walk together discussing your concerns. Regardless of your baby’s moods or disposition, we will deal with it together. Never underestimate the power of compassion, empathy and support during a stressful and challenging time in your life.

Teens, young adults and parents may choose Walk and Talk Therapy to address:

  • Adjusting to a new Lifestyle
  • Mild or moderate Depression/Post-Partum Depression/Prenatal Depression
  • Adjusting to a new baby
  • Anxiety/Panic Attacks
  • Separation/Divorce Recovery
  • Relationship or Family issues

  • Life Stressors/Life After College
  • Self Esteem issues
  • Identity issues/Body Image

My Walk & Talk Therapy Sessions are conducted outdoors while walking, and the simple act of walking while talking out life’s issues, creates an environment of possibility and change. Most sessions are conducted in parks in the Newport Beach, Irvine or Tustin areas. You determine the pace and how far we walk during any given session. We can rest along the way, or you may prefer to walk the entire session.
